Anansi Park, a new development of retail and office space in the heart
of Durbanville, was officially opened to the public on 21 July 2008. The
building, which has attracted much interest from both public and business,
and houses an enviable tenant mix, reflects and complements the architectural
heritage of Durbanville (Western Cape Province, South Africa).
The developers, Anansi Investment Trust, ambition was to develop the site
subject to only one condition - the end result had to be attractive.
The developers wanted the development to complement Durbanville’s
original buildings, and Gordon’s Bay architect Jacques du Toit was
appointed for the job. Du Toit studied the town’s existing old buildings,
as well as photos of original buildings that have since been demolished,
and largely used the architectural design of the Kings and Queens Cottages
in Church Street as a frame of reference.
Brothers Anton and Adriaan Heydenrych, the
appointed builders and project managers, began work on the site in
September 2007. Quality was the primary consideration throughout the project
with only the best and most durable materials being used.
Attempts were also made to retain as much of the original
building as possible. In the restaurant section, for instance, much of
the original wood was re-used. In addition, new sections of the building
were built on top of the original foundations where possible.
The owners are hugely excited about the great combination
of tenants, which range from retail to professional services and includes
a restaurant.
A list of all the tenants, both retail and commercial can be viewed here
or via the menu above.
